The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, held a telephone conversation today with the UN Acting Special Representative for Libya, Stephanie Williams.

The Foreign Minister also expressed the hope that the process will remain firmly anchored to the UN mediation and the Berlin Process and that any parallel initiatives capable of weakening this framework will be avoided, stressing the need to protect the Libyan negotiating space from foreign and internal interference. Minister Di Maio welcomed the recent developments in the military and security field within the Joint Military Commission and, in particular, with a view to the reopening of the Sirte-Misurata coastal road and the withdrawal of foreign forces and fighters from the so-called "Sirte triangle".
