Deputy Minister Di Stefano chairs the Energy, Environment and Climate Steering Committee

This morning Deputy Minister Manlio Di Stefano has chaired the interministerial Steering Committee on Energy, Environment and Climate. The event has brought together representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, along with the most important players in the Italian energy sector.

“On these issues of the future, 2021 is the Year of Italy,” Deputy Minister Di Stefano said. “This year, in fact, we are bringing energy and the environment to the international level, working towards a global agreement on the decarbonisation and climate neutrality of our society. As a member of the EU and as President of the G20, we have the ambition to bring about more stringent conclusions on environmental matters that will persuade even the most reluctant countries to address and mitigate climate change."

The meeting has made it possible to take stock of Italy's national position on climate and energy matters, in view of the important forthcoming multilateral events of which Italy is the protagonist this year, as holder of the G20 Presidency and as the United Kingdom's partner for the Presidency of COP26.

"Thanks to our position at the centre of the Mediterranean”, he concluded, “Italy will increasingly become a crucial energy hub between Europe and North Africa, and we want to focus ever more on the themes of energy interconnection, green hydrogen as a vector of the future, and renewable energies.”
