"The vote that the people of Iran cast in favour of Mr Hassan Rohani, who was elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran for a second mandate, is an important confirmation that the Country will continue to advance on a path of moderate reforms, dialogue and interaction with the world, " said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano. "In consideration of the profound and deep-seated bonds that link our two countries, I would like to extend to President Rohani my sincere wishes for his second mandate that he will perform in the interest of the Iranian people, of stability in the region and international dialogue, " added Minister Alfano. The head of Italian diplomacy underlined that "Italy supports the Iran nuclear deal and is confident that Tehran shall accomplish, in good faith, the obligations envisaged by the JCPoA and the UNSC Resolution 2231, so to consolidate the international community's trust in the Country." "Iran is an influential player in the region and we need to renew our efforts to seek a political solution to the Syrian crisis through the Geneva talks, in compliance with Resolution 2254 of the Security Council," pointed out Minister Alfano. "I wish to reiterate that Italy and our institutions stand next to the Iranian people, recalling the solid bilateral relations in the economic, social, cultural and energy fields, that Italy is ready to strengthen further, " said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
