Coronaviruses, adoptive families return from Colombia

All the families who went to Colombia to complete the international adoption procedures are returning to Italy. They remained stuck in the country due to delays in the release of documentation caused by the extended quarantine period, which also affected courts and public offices.  The result was possible thanks to the unceasing collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Crisis Unit and the Italian Embassy in Bogotá, which remained in daily contact with the families, providing support and assistance.

The last adoptive family still present in Colombia is still engaged in the adoption process, which is expected to be completed in a few weeks. At the end of this process, when the Colombian authorities have obtained the passport for the child, the family will have absolute priority for the return to Italy on the flights available in those dates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘activity continues, thanks to the incessant commitment of the Crisis Unit and the Embassies and Consulates abroad, for the safe return of the Italians. Since the beginning of COVID-19 emergency, the Ministry has coordinated the repatriation of almost 86,000 Italians from 119 countries, through 870 air, sea, and land operations.
