“The solidarity and solidity of the Atlantic Alliance was the cornerstone for peace and prosperity in the postwar period and more than ever today remain a force for stability in a period marked by serious crises and new threats” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, just before leaving for Brussels, where he is due to attend the meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
The opening session, which is scheduled for 10.50 am to 12.45 pm, will be dedicated to a strategic discussion on the role and activities of the Alliance, focusing on the projection of stability. This will be followed by a working lunch during which relations with Russia will be examined. Finally there will be a brief "outreach" session with Ukraine (NATO-Ukraine Committee), between 2.30 and 3.30 p.m..
The Meeting is taking place three weeks since the meeting between Alfano and Secretary General Stoltenberg on 9th March in Brussels.
