Italian commitment in the fight against COVID-19 emergency. Mission to Serbia by a medical team

The Italian commitment fighting the global pandemic continues. At the instigation of the Foreign Ministry and coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, a team of 5 doctors and 1 nurse from Latium, Piedmont and Friuli Venezia Giulia left today from Rome destination Belgrade to provide support to the Serbian Health Authorities in response to the ongoing health emergency. After the sending of personal protective equipment to Italy by the Belgrade government on April 26th, this mission renews the cooperation between Italy and Serbia in the fight against the new coronavirus.

The mission to Belgrade is part of Italy's commitment to support the Balkan region in COVID-19 emergency since the beginning of the pandemic, most recently proven by the sending of a medical team to Albania.

The team, welcomed on arrival by the Assistant Minister of Ministry of Health Vesna Knjeginjic, in charge of public health, and by Chargé d'Affaires Sergio Monti, arrived in Belgrade on board an aircraft provided by the Guardia di Finanza. The Italian team will support the Serbian experts with training and consulting tasks, making available to the local health authorities the experience gained by our country in the management of the virus.

The sending of the medical team, Minister Di Maio stressed, represents a concrete gesture of closeness towards the Serbian government and people, in the wake of the deep friendship that binds our countries. The Italian commitment in Serbia testifies the highest priority that Italy gives to the Western Balkans.
