La Valletta. Alfano told his Lithuanian counterpart Linkevičius: “Italy is committed to assure the security of our eastern allies”

“The already excellent bilateral relations between our two Countries are going through a very positive phase of further development,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, to his Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius, whom he met in La Valletta today on the fringes of the informal meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers.

The talks focused on the topic of security and of transatlantic relations. To this effect, Mr Alfano assured his Lithuanian colleague: “Italy is committed to assure the security of our eastern allies: we believe in an all-around alliance based on solidarity and adjusted to the new security threats, including terrorism and other non-conventional threats.”

Lastly, in referring to the European Union, the two ministers agreed that “it is up to us to work together to implement the Rome Agenda and translate the objectives decided last 25 March into tangible actions and policies for the common interest of European citizens.”
