Lebanon: humanitarian flight with medical supplies to Beirut

This morning, a humanitarian flight to Beirut, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation, encouraged by the Deputy Minister Del Re, together with the Civil Protection Department and the Joint Operations Headquarters departed from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in Brindisi, in response to requests for assistance from the Lebanese authorities received through the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

The flight, loaded with about 8.5 tons of medical equipments (surgical and trauma kits) made available by the Italian Cooperation, followed a first flight that carried a team of CBRN experts (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear experts) and evaluation of structural failure of the Fire Brigade and the Armed Forces.

As stated by the Deputy Minister Del Re, the initiative aims to contribute concretely to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese population, hard hit by the tragic explosion occurred on 4 August and already struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic and shows how Italy is at Lebanon's side in this dramatic emergency. Italy, also through its Development Cooperation, is traditionally present in Lebanon and this humanitarian emergency intervention represents a new demonstration of friendship and solidarity towards the Lebanese authorities and people.
