Libya: the Italian Development Cooperation Agency and the EU Commussion sign a 50 mln Agreement

Today in Brussels, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the European Commission signed an agreement to allocate 50 million euros to 24 Libyan municipalities to meet the basic needs of the civilian population such as healthcare, education, water and energy supplies and small-scale infrastructure. The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, after signing the agreement on the sidelines of the Informal Development Council held in Brussels.

"Out of the 50 million destined to the 24 Libyan municipalities to meet basic needs, 22 million will be directly managed by the Italian Cooperation service," explained the Deputy Minister, emphasising that "the EU confides in Italy to manage very important funds".

The Deputy Minister with powers over cooperation added: “There are especially the new generations, who deserve all our respect and must be recognised as key human capital also for us Europeans.”
