Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Vincenzo Amendola has been on a mission to Warsaw, participating in the "Group of Visegrad" Summit (Poland, Hungary, Czeck Republic, Slovak Republic), which focuses on issues related to the countries of the Balkan area. Mr. Amendola has been accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Poland, Alessandro de Pedys, and the Special Envoy for the Western Balkan Process Summit, Michele Giacomelli. On the sidelines of the event, the Undersecretary has already met with Krzysztof Szczerski, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, Marek Rocki, President of Foreign and European Affairs of the Senate, and his Polish colleague, Marek Ziołkowski, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary in charge of European affairs and security policy.
The mission aims to consolidate political dialogue with Warsaw, which currently holds different positions on migration and European policy issues. The purpose of the visit is also to lay the foundation for a more extensive economic cooperation between Italy and Poland. It has already achieved excellent levels, accounting for 19.5 billion euro in trade in 2015, making Italy the country's third largest commercial trading partner. There are also multilateral policy issues on the agenda: in particular, cooperation on the major Middle East areas of crisis and the implementation of commitments taken at NATO level during the Warsaw Summit of Heads of State and Government, held this past July. At the end of today's summit, Undersecretary Amendola had the opportunity to meet with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. During his visit, Undersecretary Amendola has also held meetings with the representatives of the Italian community in Poland, the COMITES, as well as with some of the major Italian firms engaged in business activities in the country.
