“Stability and security in Donbass are essential factors for economic recovery and development. It is our opinion that the principle of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty must be fully respected, although it is equally essential to acknowledge that there is no alternative to the Minsk Agreements.” This is the message conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, to his Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin, on the fringes of the 72th session of the UNGA.
He continued: “We attribute great importance to the Ukrainian crisis, which remains a priority on the agenda of our forthcoming Presidency of the OSCE. This is the reason why we want to bolster our political cooperation. We can understand the feelings of frustration for the periodical escalation of tension but negotiation is the only possible road to solve the problem of the Donbass region.”
Minister Alfano also assured his colleague that: “Italy will continue to support Ukraine’s reform efforts and urges the Kiev Government and Parliament to proceed on the road of reform.”
Referring to bilateral relations, the Italian Foreign Minister said he was “satisfied with the level and quality of our relations, both political and economic. We must spare no effort to reassure our business leaders.”
