The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, addressed a message of congratulations to the new United States Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson. “I would like to express my warmest wishes for all possible success in your office,” Mr Alfano wrote in his letter to Tillerson.
He added: “I am convinced that the Italian chairmanship of the G7 and our Country’s participation in the work of the United Nations Security Council will offer a further opportunity to work side by side and provide a common response to the most urgent global challenges, especially in the Mediterranean region. I am also sure that, based on our very sound partnership, there are no limits to what Italy and the United States can achieve together.”
Minister Alfano went on to underscore that “the great friendship between Italy and United States was interlaced through the commitment of generations of Italians and Americans who share the same history, traditions and values.” He concluded: “Italians and Americans who, from many different paths of life, contribute to making our two Countries great.”
