Today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) was held the event "The commitment of Italy and the international community for the implementation of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development" by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS). During the event, the English version of the 2019 Report of ASVIS (asvis.it/rapporto-asvis-2019/), dedicated to the progress of Italy and Europe towards the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs), was presented.
The conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic community accredited in Italy and representatives of civil society organizations engaged in international development cooperation projects. The President of ASviS, Pierluigi Stefanini, and the Spokesman of ASviS, Enrico Giovannini, opened the event presenting some results of the study on SGDs implementation. In order to achieve such results, everyone's commitment is required. The two representatives also pointed out that 2020 represents a crucial stage for the achievement of the objectives of Agenda 2030, a ten-year deadline towards that goal, and presented the next edition of the Festival of Sustainable Development to be held from May 20 to June 5, 2020.
Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, The Secretary-General of the Farnesina, opening the event confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to achieve the objectives of Agenda 2030 and the involvement of the Diplomatic Network and Italian Cultural Institutes in the new edition of the Festival of Sustainable Development.
In her speech, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Emanuela Del Re, emphasized Italy's commitment to achieving the objectives of Agenda 2030 with development cooperation. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the urgency of "moving from statements to concrete actions and changing the narrative, so that Agenda 2030 becomes part of everyday language for young people not only from Western countries but from all over the world, to make future generations aware of their rights and protagonists of the process for their achievement".
Also present at the event were the Director of Terna's Institutional Affairs, Carlo Crea; the Director-General for Development Cooperation, Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi; Ambassador Maurizio Melani (AMREF Board of Directors); the Min. Eleanor Sanders, Deputy Head of Mission of the United Kingdom Embassy in Italy; Marina Ponti, Director General of UNSDG Action Campaign; Gemma Arpaia (AOI - Solidarity and Cooperation) and Silvano Maria Tomasi, Apostolic Nuncio.
