Ms Del Re at the launch of 2020 report on UN Food Security

Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re participated in a videoconference at the launch of the 2020 report on the state of food security and nutrition in the world, an annual multi-agency publication that monitors progress towards the implementation of Agenda 2030 Objective 2 (zero hunger, adequate, healthy and safe food for all).
Opened by a message from UN Secretary General Guterres, the event was attended by the President of the UN General Assembly, Muhammad-Bande, the President of ECOSOC, Juul, and the heads of the UN Rome-based agencies, UNICEF and WHO.
In her speech, the Deputy Minister recalled that the spread of the pandemic globally requires renewed efforts to eradicate hunger in the world. For this reason, "the Italian cooperation approach aims at strengthening the link between humanitarian intervention and development, creating resilient food systems and strengthening sustainable supply chains.
We will continue this action by exploiting synergies with the G20 Presidency and supporting the further development of the "Food Coalition" initiative. The 2021 Food Systems Summit will also be an important opportunity to discuss new ideas, based on scientific evidence, through the involvement of all relevant stakeholders and, in particular, the private sector, civil society and young people.
"As Italians" – Ms Del Re concluded – "we recognise the importance of the Mediterranean diet, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for the high quality of products deriving from the rich biodiversity of our territory, an approach based on healthy diets and safety in food production that we are ready to share with our partners".
