"Italy and Europe have set themselves the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050." - the Deputy Minister stated. "The real challenge, today, is to establish an ever closer link between energy and climate and the environment, going beyond the energy/environment dichotomy, which is why we asked the interdepartmental steering committee on Energy and the Environment to tackle the two issues together".

Among the topics touched on was also the forthcoming Italian G20 Presidency, which will focus on the "3 P's": People, Planet, Prosperity; as well as the COP26 Presidency in partnership with the UK, which is called to take stock of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. "In these forums - the Deputy Minister continued - we intend to promote an approach centred on the needs of humanity, for which energy is important but cannot lead to a deteriorated environment".

"We have many tools at our disposal, from climate finance to hydrogen projects, carbon capture and storage, renewable energies. We are convinced that all this is feasible, and we want to encourage the use of resources in symbiosis with the world we live in, involving the international institutions, companies and citizens in this challenge" - the Deputy Minister concluded.
