Under-Secretary Di Stefano launches the Bike-Bike to Work project

On the occasion of the Foreign Ministry's Sustainable Mobility Day, in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Manlio Di Stefano, a new public bicycle parking area close to the entrance of the building and a locker room with separate rooms for men and women financed by the Municipality of Rome, were inaugurated today.  Employees will be able to change before starting their day's work. The "Bike-Bike to Work" project, that was recently awarded a prize at the 2019 PA Forum, is intended to encourage sustainable mobility and integrated transport for the approximately 3,000 people who come to work every day at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thus continues the Ministry's commitment to a "Green Farnesina", an initiative which seeks to limit the impact on the environment both in Rome and in the Italian diplomatic-consular network throughout the world.

"'Italy that we are so used to speaking about in negative terms - explained Undersecretary Di Stefano during the inauguration - is actually doing  very well in Europe on the subject of the environment". "At the Ministry and throughout the consular network in the world, we are committed to implementing the Plastic Free project - he pointed out - and we are determined to relentlessly spreading the culture of the three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle". In this connection, Di Stefano mentioned the recent installation of water dispensers at the Ministry and the distribution of over 2 thousand recycled aluminum water bottles to employees.

The General Manager for Administration, Information Technology and Communications, Nicandro Cascardi, recalled how "these projects, but also the photovoltaic system on the roof of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that allows the building to be illuminated at zero cost and the environment-friendly, zero-kilometer canteen, have the goal, of improving the well-being of people while at the same time reducing our ecological footprint, in other terms the environmental impact of our presence on the territory".
