Inauguration of the exhibition on De Chirico in Brussels

Today the Italian Ambassador to Belgium, Elena Basile, will inaugurate the exhibition dedicated to Giorgio De Chirico at the Musée des Beaux-Arts (BAM) in Mons that will be open to the public from 16 February to 2 June 2019 under the patronage of the Embassy. The inauguration will also be attended by the Bourgmestre of Mons, Nicolas Martin, the Councilor for Culture, Catherine Houdart and the curator of the exhibition, Laura Neve.

The exhibition titled '' Giorgio de Chirico. At the origins of Belgian Surrealism: René Magritte, Paul Delvaux and Jane Graverol '' is the result of a partnership between the Giorgio de Chirico Foundation in Rome and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. It intends to establish a link with the history of Belgian Surrealism and show how De Chirico was a model for René Magritte, Paul Delvaux and Jane Graverol.

Without claiming to be a retrospective, the exhibition presents numerous works that have marked the artist's career, inviting the public to immerse themselves in the metaphysical universe of De Chirico which still fully retains its enigmatic character.

In collaboration with the City of Mons, the BAM and the Walloon Agency for Exports and Investments (AWEX), Ambassador Basile had hosted an introductory event to the exhibition at the Ambassdor’s residence on 18 October last to present this important cultural event to policy-makers, to the public and private sectors and to the cultural world.
