Belgrade hosts a meeting on sustainable development

Italian Ambassador in Belgrade, Carlo Lo Cascio, and the Rector of the city's Ivanka Popovic University co-chaired the first Italo-Serbian meeting on sustainable development goals. The event draws inspiration from the meetings organized by the Club of Rome - a non-profit NGO whose members are notable scientists, economists, businessmen/women, civil rights activists, high level civil servants and former heads of state from around the world's five continents. The Belgrade meeting focused on the connection between socio-economic models and environmental crises. Participants in the event said that it has become all the more urgent to make people more aware of the limits of the current exponential growth, set out the options that are still open and assess their impact on future generations. Inequality, climate change, energy sources, globalization and protecting peace are high on the agenda of initiatives that the Club of Rome has been promoting since its establishment. The meeting, which  took place in Belgrade and that was attended by Italian, Serbian and international experts, was hosted at the Rectorate of the Belgrade University and organized in cooperation with the Scientific Atttaché of the Embassy of Italy in Belgrade, the Club of Rome-Serbia and the University of Belgrade.
