Yesterday in Milan, the National Chamber of Italian Fashion held a press conference to launch Milan Fashion Week 2021 (21-27th September), also presenting to the Italian press “Fashion Bridges – I Ponti della Moda” project. This initiative is implemented by the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria in close partnership with the internationally renowned Italian fashion school Polimoda in Florence and the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (CNMI), with the direct involvement of South African Fashion Week (SAFW), the support of Italian Trade Agency (ITA), Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and Nelson Mandela Forum Firenze.
The selected designers, 4 from Italy (Ilaria Bellomo, Alessia Dovero, Julian Cerro, Domenico Orefice) and 4 from South Africa (Jacques Bam, Fikile Sokhulu, Sipho Mbuto e Michael Peter Reid) will showcase at the Fashion Hub the capsule collection they created in the past months, as result of a mentoring programme tailored for them by Polimoda, with the support of CNMI. Innovation, sustainability and inclusion are at the core of this project. Milan represents just the first step of a collaboration that will continue in South Africa during South African Fashion Week in Johannesburg on October 30th 2021.
