Buenos Aires: 2019 season of Italian music, dance and theatre

The 2019 edition of ITALIAXXI, the project aimed at relaunching Italy’s cultural programmes in Buenos Aires and in Argentina, has just kicked off. Presented by Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Manzo, the billboard of events combining tradition with innovation is dense with music, dance, theatre and opera performances. After the success of the first edition in 2018 (13 performances in two different venues), this year’s season is even richer (with 18 performances and 40 events) and they will not only be staged in the capital’s Teatro Coliseo (it is the only venue of this type that the Italian State owns abroad) but also in other important Argentinian cultural venues.

This initiative, explained Ambassador Manzo, “is not only a bridge between the two Countries but it is the perfect place in which we can all meet, Italians and Argentinians, to renew our very special ties, united by art and culture, a universal language that draws us a little bit closer every day.”

Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the ITALIAXXI cycle of events held a preview at the end of January with a tribute to Pina Bausch ('Moving with Pina') by Cristiana Morganti and the performance in Sardinian dialect of the Shakespearean tragedy 'Macbettu' by Alessandro Serra. On the 4th of April, the Teatro Coliseo will host the ballet gala 'Eleonora Abbagnato e 'étoiles' italiane nel mondo' by Daniele Cipriani. In May, the programme continues with, among others, 'Ethica, natura ed origine della mente' by Romeo Castellucci, 'Occident Express' by and with Ottavia Piccolo, a concert by Francesco D'Orazio and Paolo Nuti and the ‘Opera dei pupi siciliani’ with 'La pazzia di Orlando' by Mimmo Cuticchio. In June, the programme schedules a performance by Stefano Bollani, in solo and with Argentina’s Diego Schissi and the 'Orquesta Tango sin fin', directed by Ezequiel Mantega. The season will close in December with a gala event by Progetto Fabbrica with the 'Young Artist Program' by the Teatro dell'Opera of Rome.
