Villa Charities (Italian Fallen Workers Committee) awarded Gold Medal for Civilian Value (Toronto)

On the third anniversary of the unveiling of an Italian Fallen Workers Memorial Wall to commemorate Italian workers who lost their lives in workplace incidents in Ontario, and in conjunction with  celebrations for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Italian Consul General, Giuseppe Pastorelli,  awarded the Gold Medal for Civilian Value to Villa Charities, represented by its CEO, Anthony DiCaita. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne. The award was made for the group's strong committment to remember in Ontario those Italian workers killed at work, supported by the Italian Fallen Workers Committee.

The civilian award, granted by the Head of State, to this important institution of the Italian community in Ontario, represents a major acknowledgment to the memory of the Italians who have migrated there in the past two centuries, and whose sacrifice in different areas of work - in mines, building yards and factories - contributed to the development of Canada and has written an essential page in the history of Italians across the world.
