Contemporary Italian paintings showcased in Beijing

Beijing has just opened the 14th edition of the Day of Contemporary Art, the series of events that the Association of Italian Museums of Contemporary Art (AMACI) organises every year to promote Italian contemporary art. The event, organised by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MIBAC) with the active support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), opened in Beijing with the exhibition titled “The Light of Memory”, which was inaugurated at the Fine Arts Gallery of the China National Academy of Painting. The exhibition was curated by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben and Chinese art critic Zhang Xiaolin and displays almost 100 works by four Italian and Chinese artists – Ruggero Savinio, Giuseppe Modica, Tang Yongli and Zhang Yidan – which give rise to a pictorial dialogue between the “corporeality” of light, the memory of “its long journey” which forms “all the figures” and the shadowless light which fades into the “misty and opalescent” light so typical of Chinese painting. The exhibition was organised by the China National Academy of Painting and the Art News of China review in close cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing. The programme also included two lectures hosted at the Italian Cultural Institute and at the China National Academy of Painting with the attendance of Ruggero Savinio and Giuseppe Modica in addition to Chinese painters and critics, which offered an in-depth analysis of the main themes of the exhibition.
