Turkey: Ankara and Istanbul showcase Italian design and architecture

The Italian Embassy in Turkey, in partnership with the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University, organised two evening events in Ankara and Istanbul dedicated to design and architecture, with a special homage to Caccia Dominioni, an important family name made famous by two cousins: Paolo Caccia Dominioni, military, writer, engineer and designer, and Luigi Caccia Dominioni, architect, designer and urban planner. On 10 September, Cristina Pallini from the Milan Polytechnic will present the work of architect Paolo Caccia Dominioni (1896-1992) in Ankara. This architect designed the Italian Embassy in Ankara and was the site supervisor from 1938 to 1940.
The event will display works from Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s Azucena Collection (1913-2016). The Italian Azucena brand has always hand-crafted furniture and design objects, distinguishing itself for its objects: a combination of formal elegance, understated luxury features, pure aesthetics and top-quality manufacturing. An “Open Day” will be organised on the occasion of which the Italian Embassy will open its doors to the students and professors at the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University, offering them an opportunity to learn the building’s history and architectural features. Instead, on 12 September in Istanbul, it will be Palazzo Venezia, the Residence of the Italian Ambassador, to host an exhibition of pieces from the Azucena Collection: chairs, sofas, tables and lamps that have written the history of Made-in-Italy design, testifying to its style and quality.
