Thursday, 25 May, to mark the 54th anniversary of the foundation of the African Union, 2017 Africa Day will be held at the Farnesina, at 3:00 p.m..

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, said: “It is a celebration of great symbolic value, which takes place shortly before the Taormina G7 summit, which is dedicated to Africa and which gives me the chance to stress that the key point of Italy’s foreign policy action must, today more than ever before, look to the Mediterranean and Africa."

It begins at 3:00 p.m., with a brief introduction by the General Manager for Globalisation and Global Matters of the Farnesina, Massimo Gaiani, who will read a greeting message from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, which will be followed by an address by Minister Alfano.

Those also taking part include: the acting President of the African Union, S.E. Mohamed Chérif Diallo, the ambassador of the Republic of Guinea and the ambassador of the Republic of the Congo, S.E. Mamadou Kamara Dekamo, representing the African diplomatic body at the Italian Republic.

The President of the Senate Foreign Affairs Commission, the Hon. Pier Ferdinando Casini, will also attend, along with ambassadors for the African countries accredited with the Quirinal Palace and representatives of institutions, universities, research institutes, business associations, international organisations and NGOs.
