(Office to refer to: D.G.IT. - Ufficio IV)
Traditional consular functions traditionally include the task of protecting inheritances and, in general, the successors-in-interest of Italian citizens deceased abroad or whose death (in the case of non-Italians) in some way involved the interests of an Italian citizen. The consular functions concerning succession are essentially laid down in Art. 46 of Legislative Decree No. 71/2011 and concern the following:
• information on the opening of succession; • transmitting the declaration of acceptance or waiver of succession to the competent national authorities; • predisposing measures for the safekeeping of the succession property (at the request of an Italian court).
