Born in Rome in September 1967, he graduated in Economics at the University La Sapienza of Rome, obtained a PhD in International Law from the University Tor Vergata of Rome, and entered the diplomatic service in 1996.
His first assignment was at the Foreign Ministry’s Directorate General for Political Affairs, where he especially managed relations with Western European Countries and North America. In 1998 he was assigned to the Secretariat of the Directorate General for Political Affairs and in 1999 was appointed deputy chief of staff for the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
From 2001 to 2004 he was First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Berlin, as Head of the Press Office. He also served a one-year term as “Austauschbeamter” in the German Foreign Ministry’s Directorate for European Integration under a cooperation and exchange programme.
From 2004 to 2006 he served as First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Moscow. From 2006 to 2008 he was Consul General in Moscow.
After returning to Rome in 2008, he was appointed as Head of Office for the Enhancement policies for Italian citizens abroad at the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies. In 2010 he reported directly to the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies, with the task of handling the activities of the Secretariat of the General Council of Italians Abroad.
In 2013 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Institutional Press and Communication Service. From July 2014 to December 2016 he was the Acting Head of the Service.
Since 16 January 2017 he heads the Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Unit.
He is fluent in spoken English, French, German and Russian.
