Missions for the periodic monitoring of emergency plans can be short-term or, in more complex cases, consist of fully articulated Joint Survey Teams (JST).
In its planning and organisation of these missions, the Crisis Unit avails itself of the collaboration of other Italian ministries, most importantly the Ministry of Defence.
The task of these missions is to report all pertinent data, including photographic and film documentation and maps for the purposes of verifying the security of diplomatic missions and reception centres, points of embarkation and the practicability of transportation routes in anticipation of eventual evacuation needs.
These data are collected by means of meetings and understandings forged with local emergency intervention authorities, resident Italian communities, local security authorities, tour operators and public and private healthcare facilities.
The data flow into the Crisis Unit data bank where they are analysed and processed ahead of the preparation of emergency plans gauged to the risk level present on the basis of a country outline that takes into account the various characteristics of potential threats.
