The Italian-led international expedition “On the Trails of the Glaciers – Caucasus 2011” is currently in Georgia (Svaneti) to take photographs and glaciological measurements. The project, under the direction of the Italian non-profit organization Macromicro, and the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to study the effect of climate change on the planet’s most important glaciers. A specialized television crew is along to shoot a high-definition documentary film.
The mission will last until September 1st 2011 and is the second leg of an ambitious 5-expedition programme on three continents: Karakorum in 2009, the Caucasus today, followed by Alaska, the Andes and the Alps. At the end of this expedition a press conference will be held at the National Geophysics and Vulcanology Centre to illustrate the Macromicro Association’s results in Georgia.
