Iveco: returns to the Kenyan market, agreement with GMC
Iveco intends to return to the Kenyan commercial vehicles market, where it had a leading position until 1990. During a press conference in Nairobi, Fabio De Serafini, the Iveco group’s Business Director for Africa and the Middle East, announced a commercial agreement signed with Kenyan company Global Motors Centre (GMC). GMC Managing Director Hussein Abadi illustrated the investment plan, which provides for the creation of four assembly lines at the Mombasa plant, where the Iveco Eurocargo, Daily Van, Trakker Tipper and Trakker Prime Mover will be built from next July. The plant will employ around 600 people. The plans also include the opening of a single brand Iveco showroom in Nairobi, which will be inaugurated in September 2017. The industrial and commercial investment will include the creation of workshops and service centres staffed by skilled personnel. The whole investment approved by GMC, which is addition to the money being spent by Iveco on training, know-how transfer, sales and marketing support, amounts to around 20 million euros and is among the biggest and most structured investments recently made in the Kenyan automotive sector.
