The Italian Cultural Institute of Jakarta is hosting an exhibition on Italian artist Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, in its premises until 28 July.

The initiative, organised on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the painter’s death, aims to illustrate to a non-specialist public the life and places that influenced the artist’s work. The exhibition was conceived and realised by Stefano Baldi.

Pietro Vannucci, known as Il Perugino, was born between 1445 and 1452 in Castel della Pieve (today Città della Pieve) in Umbria, into a wealthy family. Considered to be one of the protagonists of Renaissance art, at the end of the 15th century he was among the most famous and influential painters of his time. He was especially active in Perugia, Florence and Rome. Most of his works can be found in Umbria, Tuscany and the Marche. He died of plague in 1523 in Fontignano, near Città della Pieve.
