Opening of “Sala Leanza” within the Service for Legal Affairs, in memory of Umberto Leanza

Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, inaugurated the new meeting room of the Service for Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Disputes and International Agreement devoted to the memory of Professor Umberto Leanza, emeritus Head of the Service.

Umberto Leanza is known to be among the top Italian experts in international public law and one of the founders of the Italian Maritime Law Institute. Along with his academic and scientific career, Professor Leanza worked in State Administration and extraordinarily contributed to bilateral and multilateral negotiations of strategic relevance for our country, directly affecting Italian foreign policy.

“In a historical phase where the relations among States need to shift from the law of force to the force of law, by opening Sala Leanza, Foreign Ministry wanted to recognise the commendable service rendered by Professor Leanza overtly”, – stated the Secretary-General by quoting the words of the President of the Republic during the inauguration held in the presence of Stefano Zanini, Head of the Service and Umberto Leanza’s children, Manfredi, Beatrice and Eugenio.
