In agreement with the Egyptian and Israeli authorities, the Italian government has managed to get another 12 Palestinian citizens out of Gaza. They are all relatives of Italian citizens or with right of residence, who passed through the Rafah crossing point to enter Egypt after days of waiting.
“Since the initial stages of the conflict, Italy has been committed to assisting the Palestinians and to guaranteeing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza, who are victims of the madness of Hamas, which uses them instrumentally in the conflict”, commented Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, according to whom “at the same time, we continue to tell our Israeli friends that there must be a proportionate reaction”.
Last night, together with intelligence officials, officials from the Italian embassy in Cairo managed the transfer operation and will continue to verify the possibility of assisting other Palestinian citizens.
In Cairo, most of the Palestinians were hosted by the Italian hospital “Umberto I”; 7 of them are elderly people, also wheelchair-bound, and were also assisted to check their physical condition. Others have been entrusted to family members and will soon arrive in Italy.
