The construction site for the renovation of the “Casa d’Italia” in Zurich has been inaugurated. The building will host the offices of the Consulate General, the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italian State Schools, and the Comites. The “Casa d’Italia” – a historic 3,000 square metre building dating back to 1919 – will also feature a spacious and modern auditorium for cultural events. The completion of the new building, which will be equipped with the latest energy-saving and environmentally sustainable technologies, is expected in the first half of 2026.

The inauguration of the construction site took place in the presence of the Head of the Administrative and Technical Coordination Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giulio Alaimo, local authorities, and representatives of the Italian community. The Italian Ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, expressed his satisfaction with the start of the construction. “I am truly happy,” said Cornado, “today the work begins, and we are getting closer to the moment when the Schools, the Consulate General, and the Italian community will have their own home.” Alaimo noted that the “Casa d’Italia” in Zurich, with an investment of approximately EUR 14 million, is one of the largest investments by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs abroad as part of its strategy to modernise and enhance state property.

The Consul General in Zurich, Mario Baldi, emphasised the goal of celebrating the 2026 Republic Day at the new Casa d’Italia: “It will be the home of all Italians – modern, elegant, and functional. I am proud to make it available to the Italian community, the Associations, the users of the Consulate General, and the students of our Schools.”
