Rome, Undersecretary Silli attends the Mexico-Italy Business & Investment Forum at Unioncamere

Undersecretary Giorgio Silli took part in the opening session of the Mexico-Italy Business & Investment Forum at Unioncamere headquarters in Rome. The event was organised by the Embassy of Mexico in Italy and the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Italy, with the participation of Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Mexico’s Minister of Economy, H. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexican Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce, Vidal Llerenas Morales, and business representatives from both countries.

“Mexico is a key partner for us in Latin America, with whom we have established strong ties in political, economic, entrepreneurial, commercial, cultural fields, as well as in the fight against organised crime and corruption,” Silli emphasised. “Our countries are currently working to expand bilateral relations into new areas of cooperation, such as science and technology, health, climate change mitigation, environmental protection, and digital transition.”

Undersecretary Silli highlighted the excellent state of relations between Italy and Mexico, which this year marks their 150th anniversary. The partnership between Rome and Mexico City has been strengthened by the 2012 Strategic Partnership Agreement and continues to grow, supported by the Italian government’s prioritisation of revitalising relations with Latin American countries.

Silli presented data showing increased trade and investment flows in both directions. Over the years, these investments have enabled Italian companies and groups to establish a strong presence in Mexico, benefiting from the US-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA), and vice versa. He concluded by expressing hope for the swift finalisation of the updated EU-Mexico Global Agreement, which, alongside the EU’s Global Gateway Investment Agenda, could significantly boost trade and investment volumes.
