Riyadh. Undersecretary Silli attends the 16th Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification

Today in Riyadh, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli attended the 16th Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), presenting, in the third High-Level Ministerial Dialogue, “Impacts of Land Degradation and Drought on Forced Migration, Security and Prosperity.”

Silli commented: “Italy recognises the fundamental role of sustainable management of the territory, and has been committed for years to carrying out development cooperation initiatives aimed at facing the global challenges related to climate change, particularly in the regions most vulnerable to the effects of desertification.”

The Undersecretary concluded by adding: “Some strategic initiatives of Italian cooperation in Africa, such as the Rome Process on Migration and the Mattei Plan, are key instruments for dealing with the causes of these crises. The Rome Process in particular is an innovative, Italian-led model aimed at handling migratory flows through integrated approaches that combine sustainable development, natural resources management, and the promotion of climate resilience.”
