Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani today had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan.
During the phone call, the two Ministers talked about the situation in Syria, also in view of the Quint meeting to be held later in the evening in Rome – and attended by Italy, the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the European Union – as well as Minister Tajani’s mission to Damascus scheduled for the following day.
The talks revealed a common willingness to work together to foster an inclusive political process in Syria aimed at achieving overall peace and stability in the Country. In this regard, the two Ministers agreed on the importance of guiding the Syrian de facto authorities throughout the ongoing transition process and on the importance of supporting the Country as it addresses the socio-economic challenges following the end of the civil conflict.
The two Ministers also agreed to maintain close coordination on the Syrian dossier, with Minister Tajani assuring his counterpart of his readiness to bring Turkey’s demands to the fore during the evening meeting.
