The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, visited the United Nations Campus in Turin today. The Campus hosts the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC).
The Deputy Minister concluded the opening session of the Pioneers Forum, a high-level dialogue platform bringing together policymakers, officials, experts, and the private sector to reflect on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of work and learning.
Alongside Christophe Perrin, Director of the ITC-ILO, the Deputy Minister took part in the Pioneers Awards ceremony, which honours three outstanding professionals – from Jamaica, Kenya, and Pakistan respectively – who trained at the ITC-ILO and have made a significant contribution to promoting social justice in the world of work.
As part of a full day of engagements, the Deputy Minister also visited the UN Campus, accompanied by the leadership of the International Training Centre, and met with a delegation of Italian staff serving at the three UN agencies.
Equally productive were bilateral meetings with Celeste Drake, Deputy Director-General of the International Labour Organization, and Leif Villadsen, Acting Director of UNICRI. During these meetings, the Deputy Minister reiterated Italy’s full support for the UN agencies hosted at the Turin Campus, as well as the fundamental importance of multilateral values for Italy.
“Italy strongly believes in effective collaboration with ITC-ILO and UNICRI, and in the decisive impact that training and research can have in the closely interconnected fields of development, social justice, migration, and the fight against terrorism, organised crime, and illicit trafficking. Our goal is to further strengthen the multilateral hub of Turin as a global centre of excellence for training”, stated Deputy Minister Cirielli.
