The exhibition “Italy on two wheels” is currently taking place at the Italian Cultural Institute of Munich, organised in collaboration with the cultural collective Mo’ Better Football, long committed to exploring the intersections between art and sport, the Consulate General of Italy in Freiburg, and the Italian Cultural Institutes of Hamburg and Stuttgart.

The exhibition’s journey guides visitors in discovering how cyclists, bicycles, mountain peaks, routes, and territories conquered by two wheels have influenced Italian culture, shaping its collective imagination.

The stages of this journey are marked by different forms of the illustration medium, explored by three contemporary artists: Riccardo Guasco, painter, illustrator and graphic artist, who created 15 posters celebrating historic Italian races; Sergio Ponchione, comic book author and illustrator, who produced 10 original portraits of Italian cyclists; Simone Ferrarini, illustrator, who made 15 drawings depicting the most significant climbs in the Italian collective imagination.

The exhibition narrative moves between almost mythical places linked to memorable sporting achievements, where scenic beauty and cycling history intersect, and the unforgettable faces of those protagonists; starting from a reflection on the importance of the bicycle in contemporary material culture, the exhibition also aims to interpret and encourage growing attention to the environment and sustainable transport.
