Undersecretary Silli in Milan for the International Trade Forum

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli, participated today in the third International Trade Forum, an event organized in Milan by ARCom, a leading training company specializing in tax and customs matters.

The Undersecretary began by emphasizing the paramount importance of the transatlantic link, a special relationship that binds Italy and the United States and has enabled our country to play a central role in Europe, as demonstrated by the agreement reached between the USA and the EU on tariffs on 21 August.

At the same time, the new US trade policies and the simultaneous growth of emerging markets are increasingly urging Europe to look in all directions to further diversify both its supply chains and its outlet markets, thus also strengthening its global economic projection.

It is within this new perspective that relations with China should be seen and developed. The European Union has defined it as a cooperation partner, an economic competitor, and a strategic rival. He concluded: “This definition well reflects the complexity of a relationship that combines the need for dialogue and collaboration on global issues with an awareness of the profound asymmetries that characterize economic relations.”
