The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli, took part today in Rome, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, in the Italy–Turkmenistan Business Forum, which he inaugurated together with President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan, on a State visit to Italy.
“Today’s event represents another important step in bringing our two countries even closer. The Government is working with determination to enable Italian companies to take full advantage of the major opportunities emerging in Turkmenistan in the energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, defence and security sectors,” Undersecretary Silli stated. He also underlined the growing strategic importance of Central Asia for global geopolitical stability and the deep ties linking the region to Italy, as reflected in the launch of the ‘1+5’ regular consultation format with the five Central Asian countries.
Turkmenistan’s development potential is significant, as shown by the strong interest of the Italian business community in the country’s efforts to diversify its economy. The Forum – organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan – brought together over 150 institutional and business representatives from both countries. Several agreements were signed, particularly in the textile, energy and cybersecurity sectors.
