The international Conference “No Justice Without Life,” organized by the Comunità di Sant’Egidio to promote the abolition of the death penalty worldwide, took place yesterday in Rome at the Chamber of Deputies. The Conference was attended by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and the closing session was attended by Undersecretary of State Giorgio Silli.
In his speech the Minister noted that the universal abolition of the death penalty is an issue on which Italy has always been at the forefront worldwide. At the United Nations, our country continues to promote – together with the European Union and various regional partners – the UN Resolution for a Universal Moratorium on Executions. This is an exercise which, over time, has garnered increasingly broad consensus.
In his closing remarks, the Undersecretary reiterated that the Government will continue to work intensively with all partners that pursue the goal of abolishing the death penalty, such as the Comunità di Sant’Egidio.
