On 17 December, the Italian Quantum General Assembly was held in Rome at the Corsie Sistine. This national event focused on the progress and future prospects of the Italian Strategy for Quantum Technologies.

The initiative was promoted by the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of University and Research, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the National Cybersecurity Agency and the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute.

The General Assembly brought together representatives from institutions, academia and industry, providing a strategic opportunity to assess and guide public action following the publication of the Italian Strategy for Quantum Technologies.

The event aimed to strengthen dialogue among government bodies, universities, research centres and the industrial sector, guiding the evolution and implementation of the Strategy while ensuring coherence, effectiveness and the enhancement of national expertise within the international scientific and technological context.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani highlighted how quantum technologies present significant opportunities for economic growth, industrial innovation and global competitiveness. Within this framework, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation supports the internationalisation of Italian companies and promotes attractive ecosystems for investment and talent, underlining the strategic role of scientific and economic diplomacy in supporting the country’s system.

Alongside Minister Tajani, opening remarks were delivered by Ministers Guido Crosetto, Adolfo Urso, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and Anna Maria Bernini, as well as Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alessio Butti, reflecting broad institutional engagement on the key topics of quantum technologies.

Discussions highlighted the strategic importance of quantum technologies for Italy’s competitiveness, security and technological autonomy. The Assembly also provided an opportunity to explore the main areas of the Italian Strategy, focusing on research and advanced training, industrial development, technology transfer and issues related to security and international cooperation.
