TOURISM – ITALY IS A TOP DESTINATION FOR THE SPANISH

The International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid has come to a close. The Fair is the tourism sector’s most important fair in Spain and one of the main international events for the industry. The Italian pavilion displayed the “Italia: Much More” slogan, and featured displays by Sardinia, Puglia and Campania Regions, with 7 Italian tour operators also present.


Spanish visitor numbers up 3.3% in 2011


Italy continues to be a top destination for Spanish tourists, and their first choice for cultural tourism. The latest figures from the national statistics institute, ISTAT, show in increase in Spanish visitor numbers from 1,085,000 in 2001 to 1,929,832 in 2011 (with a rise of 3.3% from 2010 to 2011).
