The initiative “Four worlds – A global foresight dialogue with the younger generations on the future of agri-food diplomacy” will take place today at 3:00 p.m. at the Farnesina. Approximately 80 young scientists, scholars and researchers engaged in “food diplomacy” from across the world will participate in the event to discuss the role of agri-food systems in international relations.
The meeting will open with the presentation of the report “Four worlds, one system: Italy in global agri-food geopolitics”, promoted by Dr Nicola Caputo, Adviser to Minister Tajani for export and the internationalisation of the agri-food supply chain, and developed within the framework of the “Rural Hack” research-action programme. Rural Hack is an Italian research platform dedicated to innovation in agri-food systems, sustainability and technologies for the agriculture of the future, based at the San Giovanni a Teduccio Technological Hub in Naples, under the scientific coordination of Professor Alex Giordano.
The report offers a strategic interpretation of the Italian agri-food sector as an instrument of foreign policy, highlighting the role of Made in Italy in processes of cooperation, innovation, soft power and international governance. The research identifies four key domains through which to interpret Italy’s positioning in global agri-food geopolitics: high-value mature economies, dynamic emerging economies, economies in transition and structural fragilities and major global geopolitical actors.
“Food is increasingly becoming a lever for dialogue, cooperation and international engagement,” stated Nicola Caputo. “The Italian agri-food system represents not only a productive and economic excellence, but also a cultural, technological and relational asset capable of contributing to the development of new forms of diplomacy. With this initiative, we aim to strengthen a strategic reflection on how Made in Italy agri-food can become a tool for cooperation, stability and shared development”.
The discussion will contribute to the drafting of a summary document, intended to support strategic reflections and inform possible future policy directions in the field of Italian agri-food diplomacy.
