The exhibition “Wind of the great ocean across the steppe: Raphael and Bernini” was inaugurated today at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar. Present at the event were the Director of Galleria Borghese, Francesca Cappelletti, the Ambassador of Italy to Mongolia, Giovanna Piccarreta, the State Secretary for Culture of Mongolia, the Cultural Counsellor to President Khürelsükh and the Director of the Chinggis Khaan Museum.
The opening was attended by leading figures from the art world, dignitaries and representatives of the diplomatic community. It is an event that will allow the Mongolian public to discover the richness of Italian culture and to get to know a unique museum such as Galleria Borghese. From the first of October, in fact, the public of the exhibition will be able to admire two masterpieces from Galleria Borghese in Rome – Bernini’s “Neptune in Bronze” and Raphael’s “Portrait of a Man” – accompanied by a reproduction of the diagnostics of the two works, as well as panels illustrating the history of Renaissance and Baroque art.
The exhibition is part of a significant strengthening of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mongolia, with the recent visit to Italy by President Khürelsükh, on which occasion the two countries decided to raise their friendship to the level of strategic partnership. The exhibition also promotes a virtual dialogue between East and West, similar to that on Mongolian artist Zanabazar, hosted at the beginning of this year by Galleria Borghese.
