Within the context of World Food Day, whose official celebration is planned for 16 October at EXPO Milano, the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGCS) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has organised a workshop in Rome on Wednesday 7 October from 10:00 to 13:30 at the MAXXI Auditorium. The seminar is entitled “Social Protection and the Role of Women in Feeding the Planet”, a theme chosen in light of the importance of women’s role in rural development and of the measures aimed at their protection.
The event is being promoted in collaboration with the MAXXI Foundation, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD) and World Food Program (WFP), Biodiversity International, the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) and the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM-Bari).
Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto della Vedova will attend the seminar where speakers will include: Andrea Olivero, Deputy Minister of Agricultural, Alimentary and Forestry Policies; Giovanna Melandri, President of the MAXXI Foundation; Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director-General of FAO; Adolfo Brizzi, Director of the Policy and Technical Advisory Division of IFAD; Arif Husain, WFP Head Economist; M. Ann Tutwiler, Director-General of Biodiversity International, Irene Khan, Director-General of IDLO and Cosimo Lacirignola, Secretary-General of CIHEAM.
The Farnesina’s Director General for Development Cooperation Giampaolo Cantini will close the sessions.
