Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, met with Bujar Osmani, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, and Nikola Dimitrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia at the Farnesina today.
The bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed focusing on relevant issues and in particular on the promotion of further growth in trade and investments especially in fields such as energy and infrastructure. With regard to multilateral relations, discussions focused on the recent signing of the Protocol for the Accession of North Macedonia to NATO. An in depth analysis was made of the context and the state of the art regarding the future opening of talks for the accession to the European Union following the positive recommendation made by the European Commission and also in light of the integration process of the Western Balkan Countries. Finally, Minister Moavero illustrated the priorities of the Italian Central European Initiative Presidency 2019 ahead of the upcoming summit scheduled to take place in Trieste on 11-12 June, which North Macedonia has confirmed to attend.
