In Brussels for the EU General Affairs Council, Foreign Affairs Minister, Enzo Moavero, had a meeting with Commissioner Guenther Oettinger to discuss the current proposal for the Union’s 2021-2027 Financial Framework. The Minister confirmed that in his view it is “essential that the key issue of the EU budget revenue be examined with an open spirit, including in the discussion the possibility of envisaging innovative financial instruments, aimed in particular at obtaining from the market the resources required for productive investments”. With reference to the the EU budget expenditure, the Minister reiterated that “Italy considers the allocations for agricultural policy and for economic and social cohesion to be of priority importance and does not agree on their reduction”. The Minister also said that “among the new common policies, precedence must certainly be given to a structured array of actions designed to govern the flows of migrants towards Europe and it is, therefore, of fundamental importance to allocate sufficient funds in the EU budget to launch an effective European migration policy “.
