The Week of the Italian Language in the World is held every year in the third week of October. It is organized by the diplomatic-consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes in collaboration with our main partners in language promotion (MiC, MIM, MUR, CePeLL, the Government of the Swiss Confederation, Accademia della Crusca, CGIE, Comunità Radiotelevisiva Italofone, Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, RAI Italia, and the Dante Alighieri Society) and it has become the most important event dedicated to our language worldwide. Since its first edition in 2001, this annual event has received the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic.

Each Week is dedicated to a different theme, which serves as a common thread for a rich programme of conferences, exhibitions, and meetings.

In the year of the First International Conference of “Italofonia” and in continuity with the fifth edition of the States General of the Italian Language in the World, the 25th edition (13-19 October 2025) had as its theme “Italofonia: language beyond borders”, with the aim of celebrating the linguistic, cultural and social space of Italian, imagining a new community of people around the world bound by a passion for our language and, through it, by their closeness to our country.
