EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA
Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, although not members of the European Union, participate in the internal market and in some EU policies under a specific agreement establishing a “European Economic Area.” This provides opportunities for our citizens and companies in high-value sectors such as energy, the environment, transport, competition protection, health, and employment.
EU – SWISS RELATIONS
Switzerland is not part of the European Economic Area. Its relations with the EU are regulated by a framework of agreements concluded in 2025 and currently waiting for formal adoption by both Switzerland and the European Union. These agreements cover areas such as free movement of people, air and land transport, public procurement, research, and participation in the EU main programmes.
EU – SAN MARINO AND ANDORRA RELATIONS
Italy supports the deepening of relations between the EU and San Marino and Andorra, respectively, also in the framework of the “Association Agreements” aimed at strengthening the integration of San Marino and Andorra into the EU. These agreements will enable San Marino and Andorra to have extended access to the EU internal market in exchange for alignment with European standards, with benefits for our citizens and companies.
